Wallpaper has made a huge splash in the home décor industry. The polarizing paint alternative and longtime decorating stigma has returned to fashion thanks to super stylish prints, dimensional fabrics, and new materials that make it easy to install and remove. Offering more drama than paint, it’s a fun way to transform a room and reflect your personal style without breaking the bank.

Why has wallpaper made such a comeback? A few things have led to the renewed interest. Adding texture and layers to your walls is very on-trend right now. Wallcoverings offer endless possibilities with texture, contemporary design and every color and pattern under the sun. People want their homes to feel special and unique. Wallpaper is the perfect way to stamp your individual style on your home.

In terms of the look and feel – wallpaper has come a long way from the shiny, plastic stuff that dominated the 80’s (don’t get me started on the apple basket border we had in our kitchen when I was a kid). Current wallpaper materials and designs are amazing! New digital printing technology offers prints that are oversized and whimsical. The colors are richer and brighter. The fabrics are textured and sometimes three-dimensional. The design choices are endless.

Installing and removing wallpaper used to be a time consuming, awful process. Not anymore! Modern technology and new adhesive residue (hallelujah) has simplified the process. The wallpaper of today is actually pretty forgiving when it’s wet. You can slide it and move it until it matches up perfectly with your seam. As far as removal goes there’s no more scraping and steaming. The new wallpaper is applied easily and comes off even easier without any damage to the walls.

Today’s wallpaper has never been more affordable and more convenient. It gives your room that special touch, depth and design that paint just can’t achieve. Give us a call if you need help adding some wallpaper to your home.

  • My wife and I want to remodel our kitchen a little bit, so it’s good to know that wallpaper is much easier to apply than it was previously. My wife wants to get something that helps make our kitchen feel a little more rustic than before, so I’d imagine the textures and 3-D feel you mention will come in handy for that. Is wallpaper relatively expensive to have installed professionally?
