Ranch Style Flower Mound Home Gets a Contemporary Makeover

By October 24, 2016 No Comments

We are smack dab in the middle of a 12 room renovation and design project on a new-construction in Flower Mound, Texas.

It has been such a treat to work with this family! You will not meet a more down-to-earth, welcoming and kind-hearted bunch. In talking with them about their vision for their home they stressed the importance of creating a warm, “kick-off-your-shoes-and-stay-while” place for friends and family to gather. But this family is also all about good design. Along with creating a casual vibe they want to furnish their home with unique, one-of-a-kind statement pieces. Think comfortable and welcoming but classy with touches of modern luxe. This family is definitely not afraid to make bold moves in their home. Needless to say, we were crazy excited to get to started! And we hope you, dear reader, will join us as we document the project on the blog over the coming months. Today we are going to introduce the overall scope of the project and the challenges we faced.

We love a good design challenge and this one definitely fits the bill. The current style of the 6500 sq. ft. Flower Mound home is Hill Country Contemporary. Both inside and out of the home contain natural elements like limestone and rustic wood beams (see photos below). With a newly constructed home our challenge was to take what was already beautiful and make it VA-VA-VA-VOOM! From vanilla to rocky road. A second challenge was to incorporate our clients love of modern luxe with the current rustic style of the home. To do this we will keep the design style consistent throughout the home. We will be designing, furnishing and accessorizing the majority of the living spaces including: the living room, dining room, master bedroom, kids rooms, patio, art studio and arcade. Yes…ARCADE! It’s going to be hard to stay focused in that room {Pacman anyone?}!

Anyone who has ever tackled a major renovation knows that it’s not without a few logistical challenges. This project is no different. There are a few hurdles we will need to overcome. First, there is extensive electrical work and sheetrock repair (all walls have a smooth finish texture called “icing” that is difficult to replicate). Time to call in one of our master electricians and paint “artists” (they’ve totally got this). Secondly, the Howards have a massive stone wall that will house artwork and picture lighting (again…getting electrical wires through stone is not for the faint of heart). Lastly, furniture scale is super important in this home because the rooms are large and the ceilings soar. We need pieces that will fill out the space nicely without feeling or looking too heavy.

To give you an idea of the scale we are talking about just look at these gorgeous beamed ceilings and rock work. Swoon!

The master bedroom fireplace is getting a complete makeover. Here if a sneak peek of the transformation to come.

The up-to-the-ceiling cement casing will make the fireplace pop and change the entire feel of the room. In addition to the face lift on the fireplace the master bedroom will get a contemporary handcrafted platform bed that will appear to be floating (with no visible legs). The matching headboard will have floating nightstands and pendant lights. We cannot wait to see the transformation!
So check back with us. Between now and January we will be keeping you posted on the details of the redesign as it comes together – from selecting all of the finishes, to the decorating decisions, furniture and accessories that go into each room. And of course final reveal photos. Now back to work we go!
